YCDC objects due to security concerns, YBS buses not allowed to stop and run at Mahabandoola Park bus stop

The Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) has objected to allowing YBS buses to stop and run at the bus stop in front of Mahabandoola Park in the Kyauktada town, citing security concerns, said Colonel Win Tint, Minister of Security and Border Affairs of the Yangon Region Government. During the Yangon Region Hluttaw session held today (August 31), U Kyaw Lin, the representative of Kamayut Township Constituency No. 2, asked a question regarding the resumption of YBS bus lines at the bus stop in front of Mahabandoola Park in Kyauktada Township. In response to the question, Colonel Win Tint, Minister of Security and Border Affairs of the Yangon Region Government, stated this. This bus stop, where some YBS bus lines stopped operating about seven years ago, is located in the heart of Yangon city and is a very convenient bus stop for passengers, office staff, and students to ride YBS buses because it is fully covered, spacious, clean, and tidy, U Kyaw Lin, the representative of Kamayut Township Constituency No. 2, said while asking the question. Due to the absence of the Mahabandoola Park bus stop, students, office staff, and the public are going to the nearby Pansodan bus stop. At the Pansodan bus stop, there is no covered bus stop, there are starting and ending points for YBS buses, and there is limited space for buses to park, causing traffic congestion on the road and overcrowding of passengers. As a result, passengers are rushing and pushing to get on YBS buses, leading to injuries and the risk of pickpocketing, which causes great difficulty for the traveling public, U Kyaw Lin, the representative of Kamayut Township Constituency No. 2, said. Furthermore, the question was raised to allow the public to use the Mahabandoola Park bus stop again, as it is very important for monks, nuns, and the general public, including those coming for official business to the City Hall, Yangon High Court, and banks, U Kyaw Lin, the representative of Kamayut Township Constituency No. 2, said. Regarding this matter, Colonel Win Tint said that a joint team, led by YRTC and including officials from the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), the Kyauktada District Administration and Management Committee, the No. 2 Traffic Police Force, and relevant YBS public companies, conducted field inspections on August 3. According to the field inspections, although YBS bus lines previously operated as terminal points and ran with a stop, pick-up, drop-off, and departure system at the bus stop in front of Mahabandoola Park on Mahabandoola Road in Kyauktada Township, YBS buses have not been allowed to stop at this bus stop since the government transition period in 2021 due to security concerns, he said. "The bus stop is located in front of Mahabandoola Park and Yangon City Hall, so the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) has objected to allowing it due to security concerns and its location in front of the City Hall's facade," Colonel Win Tint said. Therefore, based on the field inspections by the joint team of responsible officials, it is difficult to allow YBS bus lines to resume stopping and running at the bus stop in front of Mahabandoola Park on Mahabandoola Road in Kyauktada Township. Currently, YBS passenger buses are operating with a stop, pick-up, drop-off, and departure system at the Pansodan bus stop, said the Minister of Security and Border Affairs of the Yangon Region Government.
