Cambodia and GGGI Strengthen Environmental Cooperation Towards 2050 Carbon Neutrality
Cambodia's Ministry of Environment and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed an agreement to extend cooperation on biodiversity conservation and climate change response through 2028. This initiative supports the nation's strategy towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
The Ministry of Environment of Cambodia and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have agreed to strengthen and expand their cooperation on biodiversity conservation and climate change response. A cooperation agreement to implement the Country Planning Framework for Environmental Actions in Cambodia 2026-2028 was signed by H.E. Dr. In Sokpylet, Minister of Environment, and Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, Director-General of GGGI, on the afternoon of July 28, 2026, at the Ministry of Environment. The framework prioritizes promoting concrete actions towards green economic growth and effectively expanding the protection of natural resources and the environment in Cambodia. It specifically focuses on responding to climate change in accordance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, aiming to achieve the strategic goal of making Cambodia a carbon-neutral country by 2050. H.E. Dr. In Sokpylet expressed his profound gratitude to GGGI for its firm commitment to continuously strengthen and expand close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, contributing to making Cambodia cleaner, greener, and more sustainable with greater effectiveness, as well as building resilience and responding to climate change. Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim also praised the leadership of H.E. the Minister in promoting Cambodia's environmental vision towards carbon neutrality by 2050. GGGI is committed to continuing its contribution to the Ministry of Environment's "Clean, Green, and Sustainable" strategy, which includes reforestation and the preparation of carbon trading projects.
