Maguindanao Blast Injures Five, Including Soldiers and Civilians

A GRENADE attack wounded two soldiers and three civilians along a highway in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur on Saturday after two motorcycle-riding suspects targeted a Philippine Army vehicle, authorities said. Police said one of the attackers hurled a grenade at a KM-450 vehicle carrying soldiers from the 4th Scout Ranger Company under the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion. The explosive missed the vehicle, landed beside the highway and detonated. The blast injured Corporals Jessie Jay H. Bulanay and Arnel C. Calapan, along with civilians John Dave Usman Santiago, Bassir Amban Batong and Pamiya Upam Bulingkig, who sustained shrapnel wounds. Security cameras from nearby establishments captured the suspects arriving on a motorcycle, stopping briefly before one of them threw the grenade and fled with the driver. Police and Army personnel have launched a joint manhunt to identify and arrest the attackers. Authorities have yet to establish the motive behind the bombing. This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the southern Philippines, a region that has historically contended with insurgent activities and threats of terrorism. The government faces continued pressure to bolster security measures and ensure the safety of its citizens.
