Lost 5-Year-Old Boy on Highway Reunited with Family Thanks to Rescuer's Action

A 5-year-old boy found walking alone near a highway exit in southern Vietnam's Dong Nai province has been safely reunited with his family, thanks to the intervention of a passing couple. On September 14, Phước Thái Commune Police reported that on the night of September 12, around 10 PM, Huỳnh Hữu Hoài and his wife were driving on the Bến Lức - Long Thành highway towards Ho Chi Minh City. As they turned off onto the ramp leading to National Highway 51 (about 100 meters before the intersection), they spotted a young boy with a backpack walking on the left side of the road. When approached, the child began to cry and spoke incoherently. Concerned for the child's safety on a busy road late at night, the couple stopped their vehicle, comforted the boy, and then took him to the Phước Thái Commune Police, located over 2 kilometers away, to report the incident and seek help in finding his parents. To avoid any misunderstanding, Mr. Hoài used his phone to record the entire process from encountering the child to handing him over to the authorities, providing his personal information and contact details along with the video footage. Upon receiving the child, the police brought him back to the vicinity of the Bến Lức - Long Thành highway roundabout to search for clues about his relatives. Approximately two hours later, they managed to contact the boy's father and handed him over to the family. According to the father, he had entrusted his son to his sister, who lives nearby, due to his work commitments. The child, upon waking up and not finding his parents, ran out to look for them and became lost. The father later sent a message expressing his gratitude to the couple for their help in finding and safely bringing his son to the police. The Phước Thái Commune Police commended the couple's appropriate action in bringing the child to the authorities and noted that the provision of personal information and visual records of the encounter aided in clarifying the situation.
