Cambodia's Industrial Growth: Capital Regions Lead Factory Concentration, Driving Employment and Investment

Cambodia's industrialization is steadily progressing. As of July 2026, there are 3,357 registered factories operational across the country, according to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation. Among these, the capital city of Phnom Penh ranks first with 912 factories, followed by Kampong Speu province in second place with 677 factories. Kandal province is third with 438 factories, and Svay Rieng province is fourth with 360 factories. Conversely, provinces such as Pailin, Mondulkiri, and Oddar Meanchey are among those with the fewest factories, each having only two operational. These large-scale factories collectively employ a workforce of 1,357,371 people, of whom 952,156 are women, accounting for 70.15%. The total investment in these factories exceeds $28.08 billion, marking an increase of over $6.282 billion, or approximately 28.82%, compared to the same period in the previous year. Domestic investment accounts for over $4.339 billion, representing 15.46% of the total investment. In the first six months of 2026, the value of manufactured products reached approximately $9.827 billion, with over $2.515 billion for the domestic market and over $7.311 billion for exports. This figure represents an increase of about 65.35% compared to the same six-month period in 2025, which had a total product value of approximately $5.943 billion.
