Storms hit Yangon, Bago, Mon and Rakhine states, injuring 7 monks and damaging over 200 buildings

Yangon, July 6 It has been reported by local news sources and the Myanmar Fire Brigade that storms in Yangon Region, Bago Region, Mon State, and Rakhine State have resulted in injuries to seven monks and damage to over 200 houses, monasteries, and buildings. Around 7:30 PM on July 5, a tornado struck Kada Ward in Paung Township, Mon State, injuring seven monks, two of whom sustained severe injuries. Ninety-two houses and two monasteries were damaged, and 82 houses suffered partial damage, according to reports. Similarly, on the afternoon of July 5, a tornado hit Pintawgyi village in Sandoway Township, Rakhine State, completely destroying approximately 45 houses. Due to the destruction of these houses, about 200 residents are facing housing difficulties, reports indicate. Around 8:30 PM on July 5, a storm hit Taikkyi Township in Yangon Region, damaging about 30 houses. In Saikgone village, part of Mela-gone village tract in Kwanchigone Township, four houses had their roofs blown off and collapsed due to the storm. Around 4 AM today, July 6, a storm hit Nyaungpinse Hill village in Mawlamyine Township, causing trees to fall and roofs to be blown off houses. Reports indicate that Nyaungpinse Hill village experienced falling trees and roof damage due to the storm. Local residents, social welfare organizations, and the Myanmar Fire Brigade are currently clearing debris and assisting those affected by the storm, with many individuals requiring aid.
