Pre-Operational Factory Catches Fire in Kampong Speu, Suspected Electrical Short

A factory in the Kampong Speu Special Economic Zone (KSPP), located in Kampong Speu Province, western Cambodia, caught fire around 12:50 PM on September 14th. The fire reportedly caused damage to a portion of the factory. Fortunately, no workers were present at the time of the incident, and no casualties have been confirmed. The fire occurred within the KSPP in Rokar Koh village, Kong Pisei district, Kampong Speu province. According to local police, the cause of the fire is suspected to be an electrical short circuit. Following the outbreak, fire brigades from Kampong Speu Provincial Police, as well as from Kong Pisei and Samrong Tong districts, were dispatched to combat the blaze. Lieutenant Colonel Srey Sok Mol, Chief of the Kampong Speu Provincial Police's Prevention and Firefighting Office, stated, "The factory building that caught fire was recently constructed and had not yet begun operations with workers." Initial estimations suggest that an electrical short circuit is the likely cause. By past 3:00 PM the same day, specialized police units had completely controlled the fire, preventing further spread. The exact amount of material damage caused by the fire has not yet been determined. The KSPP is one of the industrial parks developed by the Cambodian government to attract foreign investment, with many factories commencing operations in recent years. As the fire occurred before operations began, its direct impact on production activities is considered limited.
