Manila Water's Kaysakat Water Treatment Plant Nears Completion This Year

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Water is on track to complete its 220 million liters per day (MLD) Kaysakat Water Treatment Plant in Antipolo City within the year. This development is expected to further strengthen water supply reliability in the East Zone, a critical area facing recurring threats from El Niño and declining water levels at Angat Dam. The completion of the Kaysakat Water Treatment Plant is particularly significant given the concerns over the water levels at Angat Dam, the primary source for Metro Manila. Fluctuations in the dam's water levels directly impact the entire metropolitan area's water supply. The El Niño phenomenon, characterized by reduced rainfall, poses a risk of further lowering the dam's levels, thereby increasing the possibility of water shortages. In response to the impacts of climate change and natural disaster risks, Manila Water has been continuously working to diversify its water sources and enhance its supply capacity. The Kaysakat Water Treatment Plant is a key component of this strategy, aiming to supplement existing water sources and establish a more stable water supply system. This initiative is anticipated to minimize the impact on citizens' daily lives and economic activities. Demand for water resources in the Philippines is escalating annually due to population growth and ongoing urbanization.
