Siem Reap Authorities Seize 45 T-shirts with Offensive Slogans, Upholding Cultural and Moral Values

Siem Reap provincial authorities in Cambodia have ordered a clothing vendor to undergo guidance and sign a pledge after discovering 45 T-shirts printed with offensive and immoral slogans. Officials consider these messages to have the potential to negatively impact society and degrade national moral, cultural, and literary values. The inspection and guidance took place on the morning of September 1, 2026, in Siem Reap city, with the participation of provincial authorities and relevant ministries, following observations of T-shirts with inappropriate messages being displayed for sale in public. Mr. Ly Sary, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province, stated that this measure is not intended to hinder citizens' business rights but rather to educate and prevent the dissemination of inappropriate content in society. He emphasized that clothing is a daily item widely displayed in public, and the use of vulgar or immoral words on T-shirts could influence children, youth, and the general public to accept such language as normal, potentially leading to a decline in moral standards and the proper use of the Khmer language. Siem Reap provincial authorities indicated that the discovery of 45 T-shirts with offensive and immoral content serves as a signal requiring the attention of all stakeholders to jointly preserve the Khmer language, culture, and social values. The authorities will continue to monitor and implement appropriate measures to prevent the spread and distribution of products with inappropriate content within society.
