Vietnam, Austria Explore Enhanced Cooperation in Advanced Technology

Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang has proposed strengthening cooperation between the two countries, leveraging the strengths of Linz city and Upper Austria in advanced technology, innovation, and high-quality human resource training. The ambassador identified artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, robotics, automation, quantum computing, and biotechnology as promising areas for future collaboration. This push for enhanced cooperation in these cutting-edge technology sectors aligns with Vietnam's strategy for industrial upgrading and economic growth, reflecting the Vietnamese government's priority on economic development under its single-party system. This initiative is part of Vietnam's broader effort to shift from its traditional manufacturing-centric economy towards higher value-added advanced technology fields, driven by its recent rapid economic growth. It is also seen as an attempt to diversify supply chains and improve technological capabilities, while strategically balancing its relationships, particularly with China. Vietnam actively seeks foreign direct investment (FDI), and international cooperation in advanced technology is crucial for enhancing the competitiveness of its domestic industries. Collaboration with Austria holds the potential to facilitate access to European markets and acquire advanced technologies and know-how. Prior to this announcement, Vietnam conferred the Friendship Order on the Austria-Vietnam Society, signaling a deepening of bilateral relations across various domains. Cooperation in firefighting, disaster response, and enhancing the capacity of diplomatic personnel is also being stepped up.
