Administrators are forcibly arresting in violation of the Public Service Law and bylaws in Khanti Township, says the People's Representative of Khanti Township

KHANTI: In Khanti Township, Sagaing Region, forced arrests are being carried out in violation of the Public Service Law and its bylaws, according to U Goon Wun, the People's Representative for Khanti Township. He made this statement while asking a question on the 27th day of the 2nd regular session of the 3rd Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, held today (July 22), seeking to know how the authorities would supervise and take action regarding the arrests that are exceeding the Public Service Law and its bylaws in Khanti Township. U Goon Wun added in his question that the quota for calling up conscripts for Khanti Township, according to the population allocation of the Sagaing Region government, is set at six people per week. "Although we, the representatives, have repeatedly negotiated with the administrative bodies to carry out the conscription call-ups in accordance with the law and bylaws, we have observed that administrators in Khanti Township are carrying out forced arrests in violation of the Public Service Law and its bylaws," said People's Representative U Goon Wun. He stated that despite the establishment of a people's government through the 2025 general election, the forced arrests for conscription in Khanti are causing residents to live and move in fear, which is a distressing sight. "These arrests, which are carried out on the streets, at town entrances, and even inside homes, in violation of the law, are exceeding the Public Service Law and its bylaws. We have learned that some of those arrested are students," said People's Representative U Goon Wun. He further stated that due to these forced arrests, young men are now afraid to stay in Khanti town, and only elderly men and women are carrying out community events such as funerals and ceremonies. He emphasized that the residents of the town are living in constant fear, and that patients from villages, including expectant mothers and emergency cases, are suffering greatly because their escorts are also subject to arrest when coming to hospitals and clinics in Khanti town. "Although the quota is six people per week, the continuous arrests suggest that this number is being exceeded, and it appears that there are irregularities," said People's Representative U Goon Wun. In response to the question from U Goon Wun, the People's Representative of Khanti Township, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Police Lieutenant General Min Thaw, explained the actions taken by the conscription call-up committee in Khanti Township in accordance with the Public Service Law and its bylaws, and the difficulties encountered in the call-up process. He also replied that the conscription call-up committees at all levels are supervising and monitoring to ensure that no illegal call-ups occur, and that those who act in violation of the law and bylaws are being effectively prosecuted.
