Koh Samui Tourist Spot Seized for Forest Land Encroachment

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin has ordered officials to seize the "Overlap Stone 2" viewpoint and photo spot on Koh Samui, after it was found to have encroached on over four rai of forest land. This action follows closely on the heels of demolitions of illegal structures on Phuket's Nui beach, signaling a firm stance against land exploitation. Forestry officials, in conjunction with Koh Samui administrative officers and police from Bo Phut station, conducted an inspection using satellite coordinates. They confirmed that structures had been built on 4-3-35 rai of forest land, in violation of the law. A total of 33 structures were confiscated, and the case has been handed over to the Koh Samui Forest Protection Unit for further legal proceedings. Overlap Stone 2, situated in the hills of Maret subdistrict, is a popular tourist attraction known for its whimsical, fantasy-like vibe. It features creative photo spots, including a giant woven hand and a goddess sculpture, along with a restaurant offering sunset views. Tourists are required to pay an entry fee to access the site. The minister stated on his personal Facebook page that the law will be enforced without tolerance for the exploitation of state land.
