Vietnam to Gradually Increase Health Insurance Coverage Rate from 2027
Vietnam's Ministry of Health plans to gradually increase health insurance benefit rates starting July 1, 2027, from the current 80% to 85%, and further to 90% by July 1, 2029. This move aims to enhance healthcare access for citizens, considering the balance of contributions and fund sustainability.
Vietnam's Ministry of Health is drafting regulations to gradually increase health insurance benefit rates. Under the proposed plan, the current 80% coverage for medical examination and treatment costs will be raised to 85% from July 1, 2027, with a further increase to 90% targeted for July 1, 2029. This adjustment is being made in consideration of contribution levels and the balance of the health insurance fund. The Ministry is also focusing on enhancing the effectiveness of handling violations related to social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance. Furthermore, it is responding to public inquiries regarding health insurance policies for students and pupils, and reporting on the high coverage rates of student health insurance in 12 localities. This initiative aligns with Vietnam's broader goals of strengthening its social security system and ensuring equitable access to healthcare services for all citizens, particularly in the context of ongoing economic development and a commitment to improving public welfare.
