War Relics, Suspected Martyr's Bone Fragment Found in Central Vietnam Bunker

Relics and a bone fragment suspected to be from a martyr were discovered in a bunker in Phu Thuan commune, Da Nang City, with experts working to identify the remains. Separately, three sets of remains were recovered and interred in another location. According to the Da Nang City Military Command, a specialized team investigated a bunker in Phu Long village, Phu Thuan commune, following information from residents. Witnesses recounted that during the war, soldier Le Van Duong from old Ha Bac province and a female soldier engaged in secret activities once hid there. Duong was known to have once entered a civilian house to borrow rice to bring back to his comrade in the bunker. Due to relentless enemy searches and sweeps, the two soldiers were unable to procure food and are believed to have perished inside the bunker. After three days and nights of excavation, authorities located the bunker on the evening of August 4. Numerous relics were found, including a rice cooker, hammock, three-pronged hoe, first-aid kit, ration box, faded documents wrapped in mirror paper, and a suspected tibia fragment of a martyr. The Da Nang City Military Command is expanding the search area and collaborating with specialized agencies to examine the bone fragment and verify the relics to ascertain the martyr's identity. On the same day, August 4, authorities completed the recovery and burial of three martyrs' remains in Ngoc Kinh village, Ha Nha commune. The burial site, approximately 15 meters long, has been preserved and honored by locals for many years. Witnesses state that this area was the scene of intense battles between 1965 and 1974. At the burial site, fragments of skulls, arms, and legs, damaged by bombing, were discovered along with parts of military caps, cap rims, and fabric scraps. Based on initial information, specialized agencies assess that these three sets of remains may belong to special forces units. On the morning of August 5, the People's Committee of Ha Nha commune held a memorial service for the three martyrs, interring them at the Dai Dong Martyrs' Cemetery.
