Cambodia Observes Alms Round Ceremony for 200 Monks on Rainy Season Entrance

In Kampong Speu province, Cambodia, an alms round ceremony for 200 monks was held to celebrate the start of the Vassa, or rainy season, a traditional Buddhist observance. The ceremony, held in front of the provincial hall, was aimed at praying for the well-being and development of the nation. The event was attended by provincial council chairman Yim Sokhum, provincial governor Dr. Cham Chansophoan, and Madam Meng Vandanin, along with provincial council members, deputy governors, heads of various departments and units, civil servants, security forces, and a large number of Buddhist followers. Participants offered alms (bát) to the monks, accumulating merit. The ceremony was organized with the objective of preserving and promoting Buddhist traditions, which are the state religion of Cambodia. It also served to offer merit to deceased ancestors and relatives, and to pray for happiness, peace, and progress for the leaders, civil servants, and all citizens of Kampong Speu province.
