Residents of villages to be relocated in Amarapura City Development Project submit requests to parliament representatives

It has been reported that a meeting was held on the afternoon of August 5 at the Shwebontha Old Monastery, where residents from villages within the designated area of the Amarapura City Development Project, who are facing relocation, submitted their requests and demands to their parliament representatives. It was discovered through an inspection that despite the prohibition of other uses on farmlands, there were instances of land being demarcated for plots, houses being built, and people residing there. Specifically, in Amarapura Township, Yindaw Village Tract, Plot No. 603 (east side of the ring road), land demarcation, fencing, stone paving for roads, and construction and use of buildings were found to be ongoing. Consequently, based on Section 19 (c) and (d) of the Farmland Law, an order was issued for the current residents to vacate the farmlands and to remove the buildings constructed without permission by August 14. It was also reported that if they fail to comply, legal action will be taken by the relevant courts in accordance with the existing Farmland Law and its bylaws, as issued by the Township Farmland Management Committee. In relation to this announcement, residents met with their parliament representatives from Amarapura Township, including People's Parliament Representative U Thein Htun U, Region Parliament Representative U Zaw Aung Htet, and Daw Saw Myai. The residents made their demands, and the parliament representatives explained the matters that need to be addressed within the legal framework. It has been reported that in Plot No. 603, Form 7 (land title) is registered under the names of six individuals, and that 54 plots have been fenced and demarcated for sale as residential plots on the farmland in the years 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2020, according to the Township Farmland Management Committee's announcement. It has also been learned that within the Amarapura District, Yindaw Village Tract and Nghetotaik Sub-Tract, within the Amarapura City Development Project area, covering Plot Nos. 603, 604, 605-A, 606-A, 606, 607, 608, 609, and 611, the cultivation rights for a total area of 405.50 acres, which were held under Form 7 and for farmland cultivation, have been cancelled and revoked. Therefore, those holding Form 7 for farmland cultivation rights are being notified through their respective ward offices to collect either the monetary compensation at the prescribed rate or the residential plots that will emerge from the project, as per the project agreement, by July 6, 2026.
