Siem Reap Province and JICA Deepen Smart City Collaboration for Enhanced Citizen Lifestyles
Siem Reap Province and JICA held their 4th Smart City Forum meeting to review progress on the Smart City project. The initiative aims to modernize Siem Reap by leveraging technology in traffic, security, environment, and tourism, enhancing its status as a safe, sustainable heritage tourism hub. Following the success of 10 pilot projects in Phase 1, Phase 2 will introduce 8 new smart projects.
Siem Reap Province, Cambodia – On June 29, 2026, the Siem Reap Provincial Administration and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) convened the 4th ordinary meeting of the Siem Reap Smart City Forum, a key component of the Smart City development project. The meeting aimed to review work progress, provide a platform for public and private sectors to discuss and gather input, and promote the use of technology in priority sectors including traffic, security, environment, and tourism. The ultimate goal is to transform Siem Reap city into a modern, safe, and sustainably developing heritage tourism destination. Sam Kol Socheatra, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province, expressed high appreciation for the technical cooperation with JICA, which has significantly contributed to the development of Siem Reap city through the successful implementation of 10 smart city pilot projects in Phase 1. For Phase 2, the Provincial Administration plans to implement an additional 8 smart projects to address actual needs and overcome challenges, aiming to make Siem Reap a sustainable smart city. His Excellency Ou Mara, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior and Chairman of the Smart City Coordination and Steering Committee, lauded Siem Reap Province's strong commitment to comprehensive development. He emphasized that developing Siem Reap into a smart city not only enhances urban management efficiency but also improves public service delivery, attracts investment, boosts tourism, and increases the province's regional competitiveness. His Excellency also revealed that the Ministry of Interior is preparing a 10-year National Strategy Document on Smart City Development (2025-2035) to serve as a roadmap for smart city development across the Kingdom of Cambodia.
