Cambodia Deports 66 Thai Nationals; Thailand Returns 79 Cambodian Citizens

Cambodian authorities on September 9, 2026, deported 66 Thai nationals who were illegally residing in Cambodia, sending them back to their home country via the Poipet International Border Crossing. Concurrently, Thai authorities also repatriated 79 Cambodian citizens back to Cambodia through the same international border crossing. The handover was facilitated under the coordination of Colonel Ee Chamroeun, Chief of the Poipet International Border Gate Police Post, in collaboration with forces from the Siem Reap Province Deportation Standby Unit, led by Colonel Yeum Man, Deputy Director of the Immigration Department's Investigation and Procedure Enforcement Directorate, and other relevant institutions. The 66 Thai nationals, including 28 women and 1 child, were expelled from Cambodia for illegal overstaying. They were handed over at the Poipet International Border Gate in Banteay Meanchey Province, facing Thailand's Ban Klong Luek International Border Gate in Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province. Following the handover, the relevant authorities at Poipet received 79 Cambodian citizens who had crossed the border illegally and were sent back by Thai authorities via the Poipet International Border Crossing. These included 26 women and 10 children. All Cambodian citizens were provided with adequate meals, including rice with pork and mineral water, according to their needs. In accordance with the directives of the Director of the First Border Gate Department (Colonel), the Poipet police post recorded the background of the aforementioned Cambodian citizens and subsequently handed them over to officials at the Poipet Transit Center for further procedures.
