Thailand Warns of Heavy Rainfall Until Sept. 27 Amid Flood and Landslide Risks

The Thai Meteorological Department issued its 10th weather warning on September 26th at 5:00 AM, forecasting heavy rainfall across Thailand until September 27th. Particularly in the Northern, Northeastern, Central (including the Bangkok Metropolitan Region and its vicinity), Eastern, and Southern regions, widespread heavy rain is expected, with some areas experiencing very heavy rainfall. This is attributed to a strong low-pressure area covering the lower Central part and the Bangkok Metropolitan Region moving along the monsoon trough across the Central region, coupled with a strengthening of the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The department urged the public to be wary of the dangers posed by heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to flash floods and landslides. Special attention is advised for areas on hillsides near watercourses and in low-lying areas, advising avoidance of frequently flooded routes and areas prone to short-term inundation. Furthermore, sea conditions in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to become rougher. The upper Gulf of Thailand and the upper Andaman Sea will experience waves 2-3 meters high, with waves exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The lower Gulf of Thailand and the lower Andaman Sea will see waves around 2 meters, exceeding 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas. Small boats in the upper Gulf of Thailand and the upper Andaman Sea are advised to refrain from departing until September 27th.
