Vietnam, Economic Partner of the Coup Military, Appoints New Ambassador

YANGON – H.E. Mr. Ngu Anh Duc, who has been appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Myanmar, a country that is an economic partner of the coup military, presented his credentials to the interim president Min Aung Hlaing in Naypyidaw on July 22. The Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Cooperation (CLMV) Summit and the Ayeyawaddy-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit are scheduled to be held in Vietnam, and Myanmar is expected to participate. In addition to these organizations, the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC), led and supported by China, is a framework in which Myanmar and Vietnam participate. Furthermore, it is possible to promote the tourism sector through trade, investment, economic development projects, and friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries. Mytel, jointly operated by Myanmar military-owned MEC and Vietnam military-owned Viettel, is the largest investment in the telecommunications sector, with billions of dollars invested in the HAGL Myanmar Plaza real estate project and Melia Hotel in Myanmar Plaza. In addition, to support Vietnamese investors, BIDV Bank, one of Vietnam's top banks, has opened a branch in Myanmar. Myanmar exports pulses, sugar, and rice, while Vietnam imports chemical fertilizers, electrical wires, and consumer goods. Furthermore, Vietnamese media have reported on cooperation in military communication technology, training of military officers between the two countries, exchange of military medical knowledge, and defense cooperation.
