Two boats collide head-on in Twante Canal, one sinks; 31 rescued, 1 still missing

Yangon, July 5 Two boats collided head-on in the Twante Canal in Twante Township, Yangon Region, resulting in the sinking of one vessel and the rescue of 31 people, while one person remains missing, an official from the Twante Township Auxiliary Fire Brigade told Khit Thit Media. It is known that two boats had an accident and collided near the 20-mile mark of the Twante Canal around 9:36 PM on July 4, and the boat named "Zaw Myint Myat (1)" sank into the water. It is understood that a total of 32 people, including 9 male crew members, 8 male passengers, and 15 female passengers, were on board the sunken boat. Following the accident, the Twante Township Fire Brigade and the Township Auxiliary Fire Brigade members jointly carried out search and rescue operations, and it is known that only 31 out of the 32 people on board the vessel were rescued to safety in time. It is known that the remaining male crew member drifted away with the sunken boat and is still missing. Although search and rescue operations for the missing person continued, they had to be temporarily suspended as the person was not found by 11 PM, and efforts are underway to continue searching for the missing person. "We are still searching for the missing person this morning, but we have not found anything significant. They have not been found yet. There are no injured individuals. The missing person was swept away with the sinking boat while rescuing their mother from the water. Their mother was saved," said an official from the Twante Township Auxiliary Fire Brigade.
