Vietnam shines at International Science Olympiads, clinching 4 golds in Chemistry, 4 silvers in Biology

Vietnam has secured four gold medals at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) held in Tashkent, consolidating its position among the top-performing nations alongside China and India. This achievement further underscores Vietnam's consistent success in the prestigious competition, having garnered 25 gold and three silver medals between 2020 and 2026. The gold medalists are Nguyen Manh Tuan, Nguyen The Minh, and Tran Hoang Nam, all 12th-grade students from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, and Dinh Xuan Phuc, a 12th grader from Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted in Phu Tho Province. They excelled in both theoretical and practical examinations, covering advanced topics in materials science such as ammonia production, nuclear chemistry, and carbon dioxide utilization. Meanwhile, at the 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in Vilnius, Lithuania, Vietnam's four-member team earned four silver medals. Three students ranked among the top seven silver medalists, and the team maintained its position among the top eight overall in terms of total score. The silver medalists include 12th graders Than Duc Chinh and Phung Quang Hung from Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Thanh An from the High School for Gifted Students under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Nguyen Luong Thai Duy from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. They tackled theoretical papers addressing global challenges like environmental pollution, green growth, carbon neutrality, and climate change, as well as practical laboratory tests in biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, and computational plant biology. These accomplishments highlight Vietnam's educational system's capacity to nurture talented individuals in science, further enhancing its international profile. Under its one-party system, Vietnam has prioritized strengthening its international competitiveness in science and technology as a key pillar of national development. Such successes in international competitions are expected to inspire young people's intellectual curiosity and contribute to the cultivation of future scientific and technological talent.
