Cambodia Hosts China-ASEAN International Workshop on Quality Digital Education Development

PHNOM PENH, July 30, 2026-- His Excellency Dr. Oum Romyne, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, presided over the China-ASEAN International Workshop 2026 on Quality Digital Education Development on July 29, 2026, at the Cambodia-China Institute of Technology and Science in Phnom Penh. The workshop was attended by Mr. Xie Yonghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing Tech University (online), Mr. Oknha Chea Suon, Permanent Vice President of the Cambodia-China Friendship Association, Mr. Tingkham SULINTHA, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Education and Vocational Training of the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos (online), representatives from several universities in Cambodia, experts from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, and Cambodia, as well as many distinguished guests. The China-ASEAN International Workshop 2026 on Quality Digital Education Development was held to share experiences and knowledge from experts from several countries in the region. During the event, His Excellency Dr. Secretary of State highlighted several priority points of the Cambodian government regarding human resource development and digital socio-economic development to achieve the 2050 vision. Based on these priority points set by the government and through cooperation with various development partners, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has achieved remarkable accomplishments in digital education, including the construction of a digital education platform for students nationwide, training teachers on digital knowledge, and the implementation of pilot projects on artificial intelligence education at universities and vocational training institutions across the country. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport is facing several challenges related to resource shortages, lack of digital infrastructure in remote provinces, scarcity of quality educational content in Khmer, the digital competency management and assessment system is under development, and especially the lack of digital and artificial intelligence experts in the education sector. It is noteworthy that the China-ASEAN International Workshop 2026 on Quality Digital Education Development is part of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week 2026. The workshop was organized with the aim of gathering Cambodian and regional experts to study and understand new mechanisms for regional cooperation through the China-ASEAN Digital Education Alliance.
