Jokowi Crowned 'King of Timor' in NTT Ceremony, Adds to Post-Presidency Honors

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has been bestowed the traditional title of 'King of Timor' by the community in Nusa Tenggara Tenggara (NTT). The coronation ceremony took place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, during a cultural carnival held in Lai Lai Besi Kopan Village, Kupang City, NTT. The coronation process was led by kings from across the island of Timor, signifying the highest form of respect for Jokowi. Thousands of residents attended the sacred event, which was also enlivened by the Caci and Bonet dances from the Manggarai region of NTT. This is the latest in a series of traditional honorific titles bestowed upon Jokowi after his presidential term. Previously, he was awarded the customary title (adok) of Baginda Pemuka Bangsa by five traditional kingdoms in Lampung, during a ceremony in Bandar Lampung that involved sacred rituals, including stepping on a buffalo head. During his visit to Kupang, Jokowi began his day with a leisurely walk during the car-free day on Jalan El Tari. He later attended a Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda) for the PSI (Indonesian Solidarity Party) in Kupang City. The meeting was attended by thousands of PSI cadres and prominent party officials, including Grace Natalie, Raja Juli Antoni, Isyana Bagoes Oka, Ronald Sinaga, and Christian Widodo. In his address, Jokowi emphasized the importance of self-reliance for PSI cadres, while still opening channels for support. "If you can, solve it yourself. If you cannot, convey it and ask for help from the DPD Chairman. If you still cannot, ask for help from the DPW Chairman. If you still cannot, then to the DPP.
