Cambodia Outlines Sustainable Transport Strategy at Global Forum in China

On September 22, 2026, in the People's Republic of China, H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia, delivered a keynote speech at the plenary session of the Global Sustainable Transport Forum 2026. The forum was presided over by H.E. Li Yang, Vice Minister of Transport of the People's Republic of China, and attended by ministers/vice ministers from 28 countries, representatives of international organizations, and numerous figures from the private sector. In his keynote address, H.E. Peng Ponea emphasized the importance of sustainable transport as a cornerstone for economic resilience, regional integration, trade, and sustainable development. He informed the forum that for Cambodia, sustainable transport is a key development priority under the "Pentagonal Strategy Phase I." Cambodia is currently developing a wide range of infrastructure, including roads, expressways, railways, ports, airports, waterways, logistics centers, and urban transport systems. The primary objectives of this sustainable development are to enhance connectivity, reduce logistics costs, facilitate trade, improve traffic safety, and create more opportunities for the people and businesses. Furthermore, the Minister underscored the significance of technology and innovation in transforming the transport sector, stating that Cambodia is actively promoting digital public services and intelligent transport systems. This year's Global Sustainable Transport Forum focused on the theme: "Sustainable Transport: Easier passenger transport and smoother flow of goods transport."
