MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it is verifying reports that gambling tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang, who has been tagged as the alleged mastermind behind the disappearance of at least 34 cockfighting enthusiasts, or sabungeros, has fled the country. PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez said they are coordinating with relevant agencies to determine Ang’s whereabouts as the investigation continues.
