EU provides 46 tons of humanitarian aid to Myanmar, to be handed over to UN agencies

It is reported that 46 tons of humanitarian aid supplied by the European Union to Myanmar have arrived at Yangon International Airport. The European Union (EU) has provided 750,000 euros to Myanmar during the extremely severe monsoon season, in addition to sending 46 tons of humanitarian aid, according to a statement from the EU. According to the EU's statement, a plane from the European Union's (EU) Humanitarian Air Bridge project arrived in Yangon today (September 11th) carrying 46 metric tons of medical and nutritional supplies to support humanitarian preparedness and emergency response efforts during Myanmar's extremely severe monsoon season. The European Union (EU) also stated that it has provided humanitarian assistance of 750,000 euros to help prevent and respond to the spread of cholera and Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) within the country. The Humanitarian Air Bridge project aims to help humanitarian partner organizations pre-position and stockpile essential supplies to mitigate the impact on vulnerable communities, and The EU stated that during this critical time, recurrent floods, landslides, and waterborne diseases can further increase humanitarian needs. The EU stated that due to recurring natural disasters, including conflicts, displacement, and the devastating earthquake in 2025, over one-third of the country's population, or 16.2 million people, require humanitarian assistance. It is reported that these supplies will be handed over to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and these organizations will manage the receipt, storage, transportation, and pre-positioning of the supplies. Furthermore, it is planned to distribute supplies based on actual needs, in line with organizational mandates, to meet the urgent needs of women and children. This air mission is not the first EU-funded humanitarian flight to Myanmar; after the earthquake that struck the country last March, the EU also launched the Humanitarian Air Bridge project and delivered approximately 1,000 tons of life-saving supplies to about 12 partner organizations. The EU provides humanitarian assistance to millions of people affected by conflicts and natural disasters worldwide, and the European Commission, through its Humanitarian Aid department, provides assistance to those in need without discrimination based on their nationality, religion, gender, age, or political beliefs, according to an EU statement. The EU's assistance is provided in accordance with humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence, and it is reported that this assistance is provided directly only through trusted humanitarian partner organizations, such as UN agencies, international and local NGOs, and other international organizations.
