Pailin Province Releases Nearly 30,000 Fry to Conserve Aquatic Resources

Pailin Province (July 31, 2026) – To celebrate National Fish Day on July 1st, Pailin Province organized a ceremony to release approximately 26,000 assorted fish fry and broodstock into protected and conserved aquatic areas in Phnom Kuy village, Salakrok commune, Salakrok district, Pailin province. The ceremony was presided over by Ms. Ban Sreymom, Governor of Pailin Province, who, along with her working group, released a total of 26,000 fish fry. This included 10,000 Chhpin fry, 10,000 Kranh fry, and 6,000 Kandor fry, into the protected and conserved aquatic areas. Ms. Ban Sreymom, the Governor of Pailin Province, stated that the 7th mandate Royal Government of Cambodia, led by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, supports the activities of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, which are currently being implemented to strengthen the sustainable management, conservation, and development of aquatic resources for future generations. She also called for inspiring participation through the annual National Fish Day and advised national and sub-national institutions to increase cooperation and attention to strengthen the management, protection, and conservation of aquatic resources to ensure environmental sustainability, ecosystem integrity, and natural tourism. Ms. Ban Sreymom emphasized the importance of aquatic resources as a vital food source for the people and an indispensable part of the ecosystem. She stated that conserving natural resources, especially aquatic resources, is a shared responsibility of every human being to ensure sustainability for future generations. Concurrently, the Provincial Governor outlined a firm plan for relevant technical officials to continue strengthening the crackdown on all types of illegal fishing. She instructed them to conduct frequent inspections and patrols to promptly prevent and suppress any fishing activities that use illegal gear or occur during the closed fishing season. The Governor also affirmed that the authorities will show no leniency towards any offenders who attempt to destroy natural resources and common societal interests. Finally, she earnestly appealed to all citizens in Pailin Province to cooperate with the authorities and technical officials in protecting and conserving aquatic resources. She also encouraged citizens to immediately report any cases of illegal fishing they witness or hear about, thereby contributing to the sustainable management and utilization of aquatic resources. It should be noted that the event was also attended by members of the Provincial Council, Deputy Governors, local authorities at all levels, members of the three armed forces, heads and deputy heads of departments and units, civil servants, monks, national and international organizations, teachers, students, and a large number of citizens.
