Phnom Penh, Cambodia – July 24, 2026 – The 3rd Wedding Expo commenced in Phnom Penh, with Madam Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet attending the opening ceremony. She lauded the organization of this meaningful event, which has grown in scale each year and serves as a crucial platform for wedding service providers and customers to deepen their understanding of Khmer weddings. Madam Dr. Pich Chanmony expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts for their guidance, support, and for showcasing the evolution of Khmer wedding attire through different eras, in line with traditional Khmer technical values. She explained that marriage is a joyous occasion for a bride and groom to establish a new, happy family. It is a commitment to building a life together based on love, loyalty, responsibility, and harmony, a time for relatives to witness, and a moment to remember parents, ancestors, and the merits of past generations. Madam Dr. Pich Chanmony also noted the differences between traditional Khmer wedding decorations and attire and those of the present day. She acknowledged that societal evolution has led to much creativity, but stressed that all innovations must have roots, and modernization should not lead to the abandonment of original meanings. To make Khmer weddings more vibrant and meaningful, Madam Dr. Pich Chanmony offered several recommendations: 1. Relevant ministries and institutions should continue to research, compile, and disseminate knowledge about Khmer weddings more broadly, clearly, and understandably, especially for youth and wedding service providers. 2. All businesses related to weddings should continue to innovate with respect for the original forms. Creativity should be used to make Khmer traditions more beautiful without losing their original meaning. 3. Young men, young women, and new couples should study and understand the meanings of important rituals and ceremonies before their own wedding. This understanding will make their wedding day more profound, not just for themselves, but also for their parents, families, and future generations. 4. Encourage the continued use of Cambodian products, flowers, fruits, handicrafts, and the work of Cambodian experts in wedding preparations. This not only promotes Cambodian culture but also supports the economy and Cambodian entrepreneurs, artisans, and small and medium-sized businesses. 5. Expo companies and all partners should continue to make this expo a platform not only for showcasing products and services but also for learning, dissemination, and continued collective effort to preserve the spirit of the Cambodian wedding tradition. This marks the third time the Wedding Expo has been organized with the aim of preserving and cherishing the noble traditional culture of the Khmer ancestors and promoting Khmer traditions and weddings to the international stage, so they may recognize Khmer identity, civilization, characteristics, and styles. In line with the people-centered policy of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the expo also aims to enhance family values, encourage new couples to establish families according to Khmer traditions and customs, and to continue the lineage of the Khmer people to maintain a balance in the population structure and ensure a rich human resource for Cambodia as a driving force for national development.
