Philippines Sees Fuel Price Rollback in Early September; LPG May Rise

Fuel prices in the Philippines saw a rollback during the first week of September. Seaoil reduced its gasoline price by 32 centavos per liter, while diesel and kerosene prices were cut by P3.83 and P3.84, respectively. Shell Pilipinas announced a decrease of P3.80 for kerosene and diesel, and 30 centavos for gasoline. Jetti Petroleum also lowered its diesel prices by P3.90 and gasoline by 40 centavos. Leo Bellas, president of Jetti Petroleum, attributed the lower prices to renewed hopes for an end to the Middle East conflict. This sentiment appears to be influencing global oil markets, leading to reduced costs at the pump for consumers. However, the outlook for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is different. Arnel Ty, founder of the LPG Marketers Association, warned that LPG prices might increase by P3 per kilogram this month. This potential rise is linked to the weakening of the Philippine peso and increased shipping costs, factors that directly impact the cost of imported LPG. These contrasting trends in fuel prices highlight the complex interplay of global events, currency fluctuations, and logistical challenges affecting the Philippine market. While consumers may benefit from cheaper gasoline and diesel in the short term, the anticipated rise in LPG costs could pose a challenge for households reliant on it for cooking.
