To qualify, universities had to publish at least 250 papers in the field between 2020 and 2024. Outside Asia, U.K.'s Queen Mary University of London was the highest-ranked institution at 11th, followed by Australia’s University of Technology Sydney at 12th. Princeton University was the highest-ranked U.S. institution, placing 15th. Another 11 Southeast Asian universities made the ranking, including eight from Malaysia and three from Vietnam. Beyond electrical and electronic engineering, Singapore, ranked the world’s second-richest country by GDP per capita by The Economist in 2025, has universities in the global top 10 across 10 other subjects, including artificial intelligence, engineering, computer science and chemistry. In the overall U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings, NUS placed 16th worldwide and second in Asia, while NTU ranked 27th globally and fourth in Asia.
