Vietnam, Malaysia Explore Smart Agriculture Cooperation Potential

Vietnam and Malaysia are exploring cooperation potential in the smart agriculture sector. Particular focus is placed on applying Industry 4.0 technologies, with expectations for the utilization of the Internet of Things (IoT), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and biotechnology. The promotion of this cooperation aims to advance sustainable agriculture and enhance food security in both countries. Professor Tan Jian Ping, Director of the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Technologies for Agricultural Advancement and a Zero-Waste Economy (STARGAZE) at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), noted that the progress in smart agriculture can contribute not only to improving agricultural productivity but also to the efficient use of resources. Vietnam has been actively pursuing technological innovation and modernization in its agricultural sector in recent years, especially with the goal of strengthening export competitiveness. Meanwhile, Malaysia is also focusing on introducing smart agriculture technologies to increase its food self-sufficiency rate and add value to its agriculture. Both countries have agreed to deepen cooperation in areas such as technology exchange, joint research, and human resource development to achieve these common goals. This cooperation in smart agriculture is part of a broader partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia, proceeding alongside collaborations in other fields like Halal supply chain cooperation, strengthening local-level ties, and promoting smart business connectivity.
