Thai Nguyen Province in northern Vietnam has appointed Nguyen The Manh as its new Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, signaling a focus on economic growth and infrastructure development. The appointment was confirmed at a meeting of the Provincial People's Council on September 19. Manh, who previously served as Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, replaces Vuong Quoc Tuan, who has been reassigned by the Politburo. In his acceptance speech, Manh pledged to uphold administrative discipline, enhance state management efficiency, and drive economic growth. His priorities include developing industry and strategic infrastructure, strengthening regional linkages, and promoting science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. The province aims to accelerate key projects, improve irrigation systems, and build modern, climate-resilient urban infrastructure. Manh also highlighted the importance of developing agriculture, tourism, trade, and services, alongside investments in education, healthcare, and culture. He emphasized ensuring social welfare, reducing regional disparities, and cultivating high-quality human resources. Thai Nguyen aspires to become a major modern industrial center for the northern midland and mountainous region and the Capital region by 2030. The province, formed from the merger of the former Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces, has an area of 8,375 square kilometers and a population of 1.8 million. Manh, 54, holds a Master's degree in Economics and has a background in finance, having held positions such as Deputy Director General of the General Department of Taxation and Director General of Vietnam Social Security.
