Efforts to Issue Disability Registration Certificates Continue

The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Dr. Than So, stated that efforts are being made to issue disability registration certificates to persons with disabilities. He made these remarks in response to a supplementary question related to a starred question posed by Daw San San Htay, a Member of Parliament for the Dagon New Town (South) constituency, during the third day of the third regular session of the third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, held on September 23. The question concerned plans to establish district-level training centers for persons with disabilities and to provide free basic healthcare services to them. Dr. Than So stated that the issuance of disability registration certificates is being carried out on a township-by-township basis, depending on the ministry's budget, and that the work is not yet complete nationwide and will continue. He added that the Department of Social Welfare has opened 10 training schools for persons with disabilities across the country and is working for their life development, and that doctors from the ministry are providing healthcare services to the students of these training schools. According to Dr. Than So's statement, the Department of Treatment under the Ministry of Health has included persons with disabilities in the list of those to receive free CT scans and MRIs starting from October 2022. Furthermore, instructions have been issued to prioritize the treatment of persons with disabilities in hospitals, similar to the elderly and civil servants.
