Vietnam's President Meets UN Secretary-General, Discusses Global Cooperation

Vietnamese President To Lam met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to exchange views on addressing global challenges and international cooperation. Secretary-General Guterres highly appreciated Vietnam's active and pioneering engagement in security, political affairs, sustainable development, and a just energy transition (JETP). He expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to play a strong role in the world's transformation, contribute to efforts to address climate change, particularly through the JETP, and promote emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI). Vietnam has been expanding its participation in UN peacekeeping operations and has steadily received development resources from entities like the UN Development Programme (UNDP). This meeting underscored Vietnam's commitment to international cooperation under its one-party system and its engagement in resolving global issues. The discussion highlighted Vietnam's aspirations to take on expected roles in areas such as energy transition and emerging technologies, as it continues its economic growth.
