Vietnam Boosts Renewable Energy with Two New Offshore Wind Power Projects

Vietnam is set to launch two new offshore wind power projects in Quang Tri province, significantly boosting the region's wind power capacity by a total of 400 megawatts (MW). This initiative marks a crucial step in Vietnam's pursuit of diversifying its energy mix and achieving sustainable economic growth. As highlighted by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang, Vietnam remains a top priority for international corporations and buyers due to its stable investment environment, improving production capacity, and strategic location in Southeast Asia, further enhanced by its 17 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). The new wind power projects align with Vietnam's national objectives to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and contribute to climate change mitigation efforts. This development complements other advancements in the agricultural sector, such as the scheme to sustainably develop 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice in the Mekong Delta by 2030, and the increase in agro-forestry-fishery exports which rose by 3.6% year-on-year in August. Vietnam's proactive approach to attracting foreign investment is also evident, with Austrian and European investors showing strong interest in the Vietnamese market, signaling prospects for expanded bilateral collaboration. This indicates Vietnam's deepening international partnerships not only in manufacturing but also in the energy sector. The country's deep-water ports and strategic position on international shipping routes provide a distinct advantage for its maritime economy to become a key engine of growth and enhance global competitiveness.
