Indonesia Targets Export Growth Through CPO Downstream Processing
Indonesian Trade Minister highlights a strategy to significantly boost the nation's exports by strengthening downstream processing of Crude Palm Oil (CPO), aiming for production and export of higher value-added products.
Indonesia's Trade Minister has stated that strengthening the downstream processing of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) is key to significantly boosting the nation's exports. This strategy aims to promote the production and export of higher value-added palm oil products, thereby accelerating economic growth in Indonesia. The minister pointed out that by processing CPO into more refined products rather than exporting it raw, export revenues can be substantially increased. He emphasized that the domestic production of various chemical products, food items, and cosmetics derived from palm oil should be further advanced. The objective is to transition Indonesia from being merely a primary commodity exporter to a nation with a more advanced manufacturing sector. As the world's largest producer of palm oil, its export is a crucial pillar of Indonesia's economy. However, a significant portion of its exports has historically been raw CPO, making it vulnerable to international price fluctuations. Focusing on downstream processing is a vital step to mitigate these risks and secure more stable revenue streams. This policy is also expected to create domestic employment and foster the growth of related industries. The palm oil sector supports the livelihoods of many people across various regions of Indonesia, and promoting downstream processing could contribute to revitalizing local economies.
