Cambodia Reaffirms Cooperation with UN Human Rights Mechanisms

GENEVA, Sept 24, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to working with United Nations human rights mechanisms during the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. On Sept 23, UCH Borom, counsellor at Cambodia’s Permanent Mission to the UN Office and other international organisations, delivered the country’s statement during an interactive dialogue on the UN Secretary‑General’s report on cooperation in the field of human rights. Borom said Cambodia remained committed to constructive engagement with UN mechanisms, stressing the importance of dialogue, mutual respect and information exchange in strengthening the credibility of the international human rights system. He reaffirmed Cambodia’s cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia. The Human Rights Council’s session is examining cooperation between states and UN human rights bodies, including engagement with independent experts. The debate under Agenda Item 5 also addressed reprisals against individuals who cooperate with the UN. Officials noted Cambodia’s intervention came as the Council was scheduled to consider several reports relating directly to the country, including one by the Secretary‑General on the role and achievements of the OHCHR in assisting the Cambodian government and people. The 63rd regular session runs from Sept 7 to Oct 7 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The Council is the UN’s main intergovernmental body responsible for promoting and protecting human rights worldwide.
