Cambodian Robot Team to Represent Nation at International Competition, Fostering Youth in Engineering and Technology
A team from the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC) won the national robot competition, earning the right to represent Cambodia at ABU Robocon 2026 in Hong Kong this August. The event aims to boost youth technical skills and international exchange.
The 13th National Robot Contest (ABU Robocon 2026) has concluded, with a team from the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC) emerging as the champion. This victory earns them the honor of representing Cambodia at the international ABU Robocon 2026 competition, scheduled to be held in Hong Kong in August. Eight teams from five higher education and technical training institutions participated in the national contest. NPIC secured both the first and second positions, with NPIC1 taking the top spot and NPIC2 coming in second. The third place was awarded to the ITC2 team from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia. The award ceremony took place on Sunday, July 5th, at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, presided over by H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, alongside other senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the Ministry of Information, and the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation. According to Mr. Khim Vuthy, Director-General of TVK (National Television of Cambodia), the winning team will represent the Kingdom of Cambodia in the international ABU Robocon 2026 competition in Hong Kong, China, in August 2026. The international competition's theme, "Kung Fu Quest," is an impressive integration of traditional Chinese martial arts and AI robot technology. Mr. Khim Vuthy highlighted that the competition serves not only as a platform for Cambodian youth to showcase their engineering and technological prowess but also as an opportunity for them to exchange and share experiences with peers from other nations. He further emphasized its role in inspiring more young people to pursue studies in technology, engineering, and innovation. He also expressed deep gratitude to H.E. Net Phakthra, Minister of Information, for his continuous support and guidance in developing the broadcasting sector and modern technology. Thanks were also extended to the Royal University of Phnom Penh, partner companies, and the technical teams for their tireless efforts. The event aims to foster research, development, and creativity among Cambodian youth, selecting the most capable team to represent the Kingdom in the Asia-Pacific Robot Contest. This competition not only provides a stage for young Cambodians to demonstrate their engineering and technological skills but also offers them a valuable opportunity to interact and share experiences with youth from various countries, thereby encouraging greater interest in technology, engineering, and innovation. The national robot contest in 2026 saw participation from 8 teams of students from 5 higher education and technical training institutions, including the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC), the National Technical Training Institute (NTTI), the Preah Kossomak Polytechnic Institute (PPI), the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), and the National University of Management (NUM).
