Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island welcomed over 212,000 foreign tourists in August, a 94% year-on-year increase, boosting its progress towards annual targets. The surge is attributed to various events, lower airfares, and expanded direct flight routes across Asia.
Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam's largest island off the southern province of An Giang, welcomed 212,191 foreign tourists in August, a significant 94% surge year-on-year. This influx brings the total international arrivals to the island to 1.7 million so far this year, reaching 85% of its annual target. For the first eight months of this year, Phu Quoc recorded 7.8 million tourists in total, marking a 30.1% increase from the same period last year. This figure meets 92% of the island's annual tourism target. During the five-day National Day holiday, which concluded on September 2, Phu Quoc hosted over 116,400 visitors, up nearly 43% year-on-year. International arrivals during this holiday period also saw a substantial increase of nearly 46%, reaching 26,200. This growth is attributed to a variety of activities and lower airfares. Furthermore, Phu Quoc has been actively expanding its direct air connectivity with destinations across Asia. A new direct route to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was launched on September 1.
