Cambodia to Expand Eye Health Services Through Enhanced Partnership with Fred Hollows Foundation

Preah Ang Duong Hospital and the Fred Hollows Foundation have pledged to further strengthen their long-standing cooperation in the field of eye health, aiming to expand the provision of eye health services to Cambodian citizens with a strong commitment to quality, comprehensiveness, equity, and sustainability. This commitment was made on the morning of September 9, 2026, during a cordial and warm meeting between Dr. Lu Lykheang, Deputy Director of Preah Ang Duong Hospital and Advisor to the Ministry of Health, and Mr. Ross Piper, CEO of the Fred Hollows Foundation, along with a delegation from Ethiopia and representatives in Cambodia. During the meeting, held in a friendly and warm atmosphere, the Director and leadership of the hospital expressed their warm welcome and high appreciation for the strategic cooperation and partnership that has been implemented through direct eye health projects. The hospital director stated that through this partnership, the hospital has been able to provide more eye health services to the poor, vulnerable, disabled, and those who cannot afford cataract surgery and other eye treatments. Currently, the hospital is implementing an eye health project supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, focusing on research into eye diseases, cataract surgery, and treatment of various eye conditions. They are also providing free glasses to individuals with refractive errors. Additionally, an eye health governance project, funded by the Australian government, focuses on human resource development, training of eye health officials, scholarship programs, and promoting eye health governance in sister provinces. In response, Mr. Ross Piper, CEO of the Fred Hollows Foundation and head of the delegation, expressed his deep and sincere gratitude to Preah Ang Duong Hospital for valuing and promoting the partnership with the Fred Hollows Foundation. He acknowledged the meticulous, specific, and equitable implementation of projects that have provided genuine, comprehensive, and high-quality services. Mr. Piper added, "Our presence here today is a testament to the recognition of the results and achievements of the work the hospital has done in implementing projects, and it has allowed us, along with the delegation from Ethiopia, to learn further from the processes of patient reception, examination, diagnosis, service provision, and data recording."
