Cambodia Prepares to Implement School-Level STEM Education Framework Starting 2027

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport convened a meeting on September 14 to outline the direction for implementing a school-level STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education framework in 2027. The meeting was organized by the General Education Department of Secondary Schools under the coordination of the Secondary Education for Human Capital Competition (SE4HC) project. The meeting was led by Dr. Um Romny, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and Director of the SE4HC project, with the participation of the technical team, the national working group, national STEM trainers, the provincial/municipal departments of education in all 25 provinces and cities, and 259 target schools. The meeting aimed to: 1. Present the overall view of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport's policy to promote STEM education at the school level and the SE4HC project framework. 2. Present the conceptual document for supporting the implementation of the STEM education framework at the school level. 3. Present the criteria for selecting and the roles and responsibilities of STEM Animators at the school level. 4. Present the plan and tools for initial and annual assessments to determine schools that have achieved the school-level STEM framework implementation. The Secondary Education for Human Capital Competition (SE4HC) project will provide support to the 259 target schools in implementing the School-Based STEM (SBSF). Through these support activities, the project will provide capacity-building training to provincial/municipal departments of education, schools, and STEM teachers. It will also offer support at the school level through the coordination of vocational guidance counselors, conduct study tours for experience exchange between target schools, organize student STEM work exhibitions, and provide annual recognition for schools that achieve the framework implementation. As a result of these support activities, it is expected that at least 120 target schools will achieve Level 2 or higher, and 210 teachers will become outstanding STEM teachers and receive awards.
