Hai Phong Modernizes Port System to Fuel National Development

Hai Phong City is focusing on modernizing and optimizing its port system to support national development aspirations. The city is particularly emphasizing the maximization of the Lach Huyen international gateway port's efficiency with the commissioning of new berths, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of its seaport system. Vietnam is increasingly recognized as a country capable of proactively creating development space by leveraging integration opportunities, establishing its position in regional and global networks, and making more substantive contributions to common issues. The strengthening of Hai Phong's port infrastructure is seen as a crucial part of this national strategy. In line with efforts to accelerate economic growth, Ho Chi Minh City aims for GRDP growth of at least 11.07% in the third quarter, targeting an annual goal of over 10%. Retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues in August showed robust growth, up 1.6% month-on-month and 14.9% year-on-year, indicating economic resilience and strong consumer demand. Furthermore, Hanoi attracted over $3.7 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first eight months, reaching 83% of its annual plan. The number of new projects and their capital significantly increased compared to the same period last year, reflecting growing investor interest. Vietnam faces the imperative of shifting its growth model from reliance on traditional factors towards technology and innovation, a necessity dictated by the times. In this context, Hai Phong's modernized port system plays an indispensable role in enhancing the competitiveness of its manufacturing and export sectors through improved logistics efficiency. This will serve as a foundation for Vietnam to become a more significant player in international value chains.
