Tawngoo: Trailer and oil tanker collide, igniting fire that spreads to monastery, guesthouse, homes and shops

AYEYARWADDY TIMES September 1 It is reported that a fire broke out after a trailer and an oil tanker collided near Shwebo Lay Kway in Ward 9, Tawngoo Township, Bago Region. The Nissan trailer, which was traveling from Mandalay towards Yangon on the old Yangon-Mandalay road, and the Dongfeng white oil tanker, which was traveling from Yangon towards Mandalay, collided head-on at approximately 5:55 AM today, September 1. An eyewitness from Tawngoo told the Ayeyarwaddy Times, "The two vehicles were coming head-on. When they reached the curve, the rear of the trailer hit the middle of the oil tanker, and the trailer overturned. The oil tanker caught fire. It was fortunate that it was carrying diesel; if it had been gasoline, it could have been much worse." It is reported that the drivers and assistants of the vehicles sustained only minor injuries and their lives are not in danger. Due to the diesel that scattered from the oil tanker's fire and explosion, the fire spread to the nearby Yan Aung Monastery, Myain Guesthouse, and one house-shop. It is reported that Shwebo Lay Kway, where the accident occurred, is one of the places where traffic accidents and fatalities occur most frequently in Tawngoo Township.
