Cambodia Boosts Unfertilized Vegetable Supply for Domestic Market

The Agricultural Community of Kaoroka Commune in Peam Chor District, Prey Veng Province, is intensifying its cultivation of chemical-free vegetables to meet consumer demand and contribute to the promotion of the agricultural sector in the region. Mao Me, also known as Chandara, the secretary of the Kaoroka Agricultural Community, stated that currently, residents from four villages—Svay Chum, Dei Srot, Chrey Thmei, and Kaoroka—are participating in the cultivation of various natural vegetables, including cucumbers, eggplants, pumpkins, bok choy, chilies, and bitter gourds. After harvesting, some of these vegetables are transported to various markets such as Phnom Penh capital, Ta Khmau city, the Kien Svay area, and Leu, among other locations, to meet market demand. Mao Me expressed the community's ambition to encourage more residents from other communes and districts to join the cultivation of natural vegetables. This initiative aims to enhance the value of Cambodian vegetables, provide safe food options for consumers, and reduce the reliance on imported vegetables. He further clarified that individuals in Kaoroka Commune or neighboring areas interested in growing natural vegetables, whether for family consumption or for sale in the market, can collaborate with and learn cultivation techniques from the Kaoroka Agricultural Community. Community officials and members are ready to provide guidance and share experiences on natural vegetable farming techniques to ensure good plant growth, timely yields, and quality produce. Concurrently, the Kaoroka Agricultural Community invites the public, consumers, and businesses interested in purchasing natural vegetables to contact and visit the community to procure their products. This support contributes to local agricultural products and encourages Cambodian farmers. Mao Me appealed to the public to participate more actively in cultivating natural vegetables. He emphasized that collectively producing local vegetables not only increases farmers' income but also supplies fresh vegetables to the market and lessens dependence on imported produce.
