India to Enhance Cambodian Human Resources in AI Education, Foster Exchange
The Indian Embassy hosted 30 Cambodian education officials and teachers participating in a training program on integrating AI in STEM education. This initiative aims to deepen educational cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations, as part of the ITEC program.
Phnom Penh, July 17, 2026 – The Embassy of India in Phnom Penh organized a farewell reception for 30 Cambodian officials and teachers from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport who will be participating in a training program in India. The training program, under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative, focuses on "A Framework for Integrating AI to Enhance STEM Education." The program will take place from July 22 to August 4, 2026, at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) in Chennai, India. The reception was attended by His Excellency Dr. San Vaddhana, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, along with other distinguished guests and the participants. The upcoming training program on integrating AI for STEM education is designed to enhance the teaching capabilities of teachers and education officials by strengthening their pedagogical and digital skills. The course will provide practical learning on: • Artificial Intelligence (AI) Frameworks • Utilization of Virtual Labs and Scientific Simulations • Collaborative use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to support learner-centered STEM education and prepare for the future. The program will also include discussions, hands-on practice, case studies, and group projects. In his address at the ceremony, His Excellency Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Kingdom of Cambodia, underscored the strategic importance of the training program aimed at integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology into STEM education. Reflecting the long-standing civilizational and historical relationship between the two countries, the Ambassador reiterated India's commitment to continue strengthening cooperation with Cambodia in the field of education. He expressed strong belief that the knowledge and experience gained by the participants in India through this training program will significantly contribute to enhancing the quality of education in Cambodia, as well as further strengthening cooperation, mutual understanding, and people-to-people relations between the two nations. Concurrently, he encouraged all participants to act as "ambassadors of friendship" and as bridges for robust cooperation between India and Cambodia. The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program was established by the Government of India on September 15, 1964, and is a significant initiative for technical cooperation and capacity building for partner countries. The program operates based on the specific needs of partner countries and aims to support developing nations by providing training opportunities and human resource development in various sectors. Since 1981, over 3,300 Cambodian citizens and government officials have participated in ITEC training programs. Every year, the Indian government allocates 300 ITEC training slots to Cambodia.
