Greenpeace Criticizes Lax Enforcement Against Corporations in Sumatra Forest Fires

Greenpeace has sharply criticized the lax law enforcement against corporations regarding the forest fires (Karhutla) occurring in Sumatra. Greenpeace's Belgis Habiba pointed out that the authorities' response to corporations allegedly responsible for the fires is insufficient. She stressed the need for more decisive measures against the current situation where continuous deforestation and land development are breeding grounds for fires. In Indonesia, large-scale forest fires occur particularly during the dry season, causing problems with haze affecting neighboring countries.
