Japan's Minebea Expands Investment in Cambodia, Boosting Job Creation and Technology Transfer

On the morning of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen received Mr. Yoshihisa Kainuma, Representative Director and Executive Officer of Japan's MinebeaMitsumi Inc., for a courtesy call and working discussion at the Samaky Pheap Palace, the Senate's official residence. MinebeaMitsumi is a leading Japanese company globally recognized for its high-precision electronic and mechanical components. The company established its subsidiary in Cambodia in 2010 and commenced production in 2011. Currently, it operates manufacturing plants in the capital, Phnom Penh, and is expanding its investment by constructing a new factory in Krong Kok district, Pursat province. The company has created employment opportunities for approximately 10,000 Cambodian citizens, significantly contributing to the development of the industrial sector, technology transfer, and human resource development in the country. Samdech Techo Hun Sen referred to MinebeaMitsumi's establishment in Cambodia as akin to "a child that I personally brought into existence," recalling his efforts to encourage the company's investment by offering numerous conditions and assurances prior to its entry. This investment expansion is expected to further enhance Cambodia's industrial diversification and elevate the technological standards, particularly in the manufacturing sector. For Cambodia, which has a high economic dependence on China, the expansion of direct investment from Japan is also seen as crucial from an economic security perspective.
