Indonesia's New Traffic Violation Strategy: Combination of Electronic and Manual Ticketing is Key

The Indonesian Transportation Safety Committee (Lemkapi) has stated that a combination of the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system and traditional manual ticketing is key to curbing traffic violations. This strategy aims to reduce the number of traffic violations and, consequently, improve overall road safety across Indonesia. ETLE, a system that automatically detects and records violations via cameras, has been increasingly implemented in major Indonesian cities in recent years, expected to enhance the comprehensiveness and objectivity of enforcement. However, Lemkapi also emphasizes the importance of manual ticketing. Manual enforcement, by directly confronting drivers, can address a wider range of violations and also serves as a direct warning and educational tool for drivers. Manual ticketing is considered still effective, especially for violations outside ETLE's coverage areas or those not captured by the system. By combining these two systems, more comprehensive and effective traffic violation enforcement is expected to be realized, contributing to the improvement of traffic safety awareness among Indonesian citizens.
