Villagers Bring 'Golden Sabai' Thai Costume to NACC, Curse Those Seizing Homes

Representatives of residents who have lost their homes in the "Ban Om Thong" project in Bang Pu Mai sub-district, Mueang Samut Prakan district, Samut Prakan province, have submitted a petition to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). The affected villagers, led by Ms. Sureeya Sangrod, prayed to the sacred spirits at the NACC headquarters for the eradication of corrupt state officials and capitalists who have colluded to seize citizens' homes. The villagers visited the NACC central office to follow up on the progress of their case, which had been forwarded from the Office of the Prime Minister and the Public Prosecutor's Office of Samut Prakan Province. The prosecutor's office had previously stated that the case involved malfeasance in office by state officials, falling directly under the NACC's jurisdiction. "We are here to submit new evidence and follow up on the case," said Ms. Sureeya. "We want to see how the NACC is considering the corruption case as stated by the prosecutor and whether they agree with the findings of the Crime Suppression Division." The villagers also presented a traditional Thai costume, a "golden sabai" (a shawl), to the sacred spirits at the NACC premises. They believe this act will bring them blessings, boost their morale, and serve as a source of strength as they seek justice. Ms. Sureeya emphasized that the group would not back down and would continue to pursue the matter with all agencies that have not yet provided a response. She stated that the situation in the village remains stable and is within the legal process, with no individuals causing disturbance or making threats. Regarding negotiations with the temple involved, Ms. Sureeya confirmed that no talks have taken place, and the other party continues to insist on their claim to the villagers' assets.
